This apple crisp with oat topping combines tender cinnamon apples with a buttery oat and walnut topping, all cooked in ramekins for an easy homemade dessert. It is a simple apple crisp recipe that feels cozy, crisp on top, and perfect served warm.
Place the peeled and chopped 4 apples in a large bowl. Add 2 tbsp lemon juice, 2 tbsp light brown sugar , 2 tsp cornstarch, ½ tsp cinnamon, ⅛ tsp salt, 1 tbsp melted butter, and 2 tsp water. Mix well until the apples are evenly coated, then divide the mixture between the prepared ramekins and cover them tightly with aluminum foil.
Preheat the air fryer to 350°F / 175°C. Place the ramekins in the air fryer and cook for 20 minutes.
While the apples are cooking, make the topping. In a bowl, combine 60 g all-purpose flour , 45 g rolled oats , 40 g light brown sugar, 30 g chopped walnuts, ½ tsp cinnamon , and ⅛ tsp salt. Add 60 g melted butter and ½ tsp vanilla extract, then mix until the mixture is crumbly.
Remove the foil from the ramekins and sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples. Return the ramekins to the air fryer and cook uncovered for 10 minutes, or until the topping is golden and the apples are tender.
Let the apple crisps rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
Cut the Apples Small: I like cutting the apples into small pieces so they soften evenly during the air fryer cooking time.Check the Topping near the End: Air fryers can brown quickly, so I usually check the crisp a minute early to keep the topping from getting too dark.Let it Rest Briefly: I like letting the ramekins sit for about 5 minutes so the juices settle slightly and the topping keeps its crisp texture.
