Why You'll Love These Sandwich Spreads

  • Super Easy to Make: These spreads are quick and simple because they only need a few ingredients and a food processor. As a result, even beginners can whip them up in no time.
  • Totally Customizable: You can easily tweak the flavors to your liking. For example, if you want more heat in the chorizo spread, simply add a pinch of cayenne. Prefer a milder avocado spread? Skip the onion or seafood sticks. They're so flexible!
  • Great for Meal Prep: These spreads store well in the fridge, so they're perfect for prepping ahead. As a result, you'll have a tasty, ready-to-go addition for your meals all week long.
  • Perfect for Any Meal: Whether it's a quick breakfast, a light lunch, or a tasty snack, these spreads work on toast, crackers, or as a wrap filling.
  • Awesome for Entertaining: They're perfect appetizers for parties or casual get-togethers because they're easy to serve and always popular with guests. For an even better spread, serve them with toasted bread, crackers, or fresh veggies for a simple, crowd-pleasing platter.

Sandwich Spread Ingredients

Here's the breakdown of what's in these sandwich spread recipes:

Ham Spread:

Dips and Spreads
  • Ham: For the ham spread, I love using thin slices of ham because they bring a savory and slightly salty flavor to the mix. As a result, the spread turns out rich, meaty, and super satisfying. Plus, the protein keeps it filling and delicious! Consider using cooked chicken as a substitute for ham. It provides a similar savory flavor.
  • Cream Cheese: I use full-fat cream cheese for its creamy texture because it makes the spread extra smooth. At the same time, it adds a subtle tanginess that balances the saltiness of the ham beautifully.
  • Salt & Pepper: A pinch of salt enhances the flavors, while black pepper adds a mild heat and a nice kick without overpowering the taste.

Chorizo Spread:

  • Chorizo: Spanish-cured chorizo brings bold, smoky, and spicy flavors, making the spread rich and full of flavor. In addition, its fat adds extra richness and helps create a smoother, more satisfying texture. Try swapping chorizo with other spicy sausage varieties like Spanish salchichón, Italian sausage, or linguica to bring bold, vibrant flavors to your dish.
  • Cream Cheese: I use full-fat cream cheese again to soften the spicy chorizo, while also creating a smooth texture that balances its bold flavor beautifully.
  • Boiled Egg: Boiled eggs add extra flavor, smoothness, and protein, making the spread more filling. At the same time, their earthy taste complements the spiciness of the chorizo beautifully.
  • Salt & Pepper: Salt deepens the flavor, while black pepper enhances the spice, giving the spread a warm, aromatic note.

Avocado Spread:

  • Avocados: Ripe avocados provide a creamy, buttery base with a smooth texture. In addition, they're heart-healthy and help keep you full and satisfied for longer.
  • Lemon: Fresh lemon juice adds a tangy burst of freshness, while also brightening up the creamy avocado and helping it stay vibrant for longer.
  • Salt & Pepper: Salt brings out the flavors, while black pepper adds a gentle warmth and an earthy aroma that complements the avocado.
  • Seafood Sticks: Seafood sticks give a slight chewiness and a sweet, delicate seafood flavor, which pairs nicely with the richness of avocado. Similarly, real or imitation crab meat can be used as an alternative, since it offers a similar taste and texture.
  • Onion: Chopped white onion adds a mild, savory crunch that contrasts perfectly with the creamy avocado and seafood.

Baguette (for Toasting): I love using a baguette for toasts. It gives a crispy crunch that contrasts with the smooth spreads. Its subtle flavor holds up well, making it the perfect base for the spreads.

Tips for Success

Pick Perfect Avocados: Make sure your avocados are just ripe for that smooth, creamy texture. I love using Hass avocados for their rich, buttery flavor.

Find Your Texture: Like it smooth? Blend it well in a food processor. Prefer it chunky? Mash it by hand or pulse lightly.

Taste as You Go: Adjust the seasoning to your liking as you prepare, your taste buds know best!

Serve Fresh: For the best flavor and texture, make your spreads close to serving time.

Store Smart: Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge. Enjoy avocado-based spreads within a day or two to keep them fresh and vibrant.

Notes

Go for Fresh Ingredients: Always use fresh, high-quality ingredients-they make all the difference! Creamy cream cheese, ripe avocados, and good-quality meats like ham or chorizo will take your spreads to the next level.
Season Slowly: Add salt, pepper, or other seasonings little by little, tasting as you go. This way, you won’t overdo it.
Pick Your Texture: For a chunky spread, blend less; for a smooth one, let the food processor work a bit longer.
Keep It Fresh: To prevent avocado spread from browning, cover it tightly with plastic wrap or use an airtight container.
Let Flavors Mingle: Chill the spreads for at least an hour before serving. It gives the flavors time to blend and taste even better.
Serve Just Right: Serve your spreads chilled, but not ice-cold, for the best taste.
Store Leftovers: Keep any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge.
