This homemade pumpkin spice latte blends real pumpkin, espresso, pumpkin spice, and hot milk into a creamy fall drink. It is ready in five minutes without preparing a separate pumpkin syrup.

Why You'll Love This Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte

  • Measured for one: The card makes one full latte, so there is no syrup batch or extra drink to store.
  • Espresso stays noticeable: Two shots bring café-style coffee depth against the pumpkin, sugar, and milk.
  • Minimal equipment: The pumpkin base is mixed in the serving mug while the milk heats in one small saucepan.
  • Finished simply: Whipped cream and pumpkin spice add the final soft, aromatic layer.

For me, the best pumpkin spice latte is the one I make at home, not the one from a café. Real pumpkin makes it taste seasonal, while the creamy milk keeps every sip comforting. I can make it sweeter or add more spice, depending on the flavor I want that day. Like Spanish hot chocolate, this homemade latte gives me a warm drink without another trip to the café. That combination still makes it feel like fall every time.

I use espresso because its café-style depth balances the sugar and real pumpkin. It brings the same clear coffee note found in coffee magic cake, while pumpkin spice keeps the latte seasonal. The hot milk gives the drink a smooth, creamy texture, while whipped cream softens the finish. I stir the pumpkin base first, so the spice disperses before the espresso and milk go in. That simple sequence brings the flavor and texture together in five minutes.

Key Ingredients for Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte

The exact measurements appear in the recipe card, but these ingredients shape the drink.

  • Pumpkin puree and spice: I combine real pumpkin with pumpkin spice to give the latte its autumn flavor and fuller base.
  • Espresso: For me, espresso provides the café-style coffee depth needed to balance the pumpkin, sugar, and milk.
  • Milk and whipped cream: I heat the milk until steaming for a creamy drink, then use whipped cream for a soft finish.
  • Sugar and vanilla: I combine both with the pumpkin base to round out the coffee and warm spice.

How to Make Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte

This four-step overview follows the same order as the printable recipe.

process 1-4

1. Mix the pumpkin base: Stir the pumpkin puree, pumpkin spice, sugar, and vanilla together in a serving mug until smooth.

2. Add the espresso: Brew the espresso, pour it into the mug, and stir until the pumpkin mixture is fully combined.

3. Heat and add the milk: Heat the milk in a small saucepan until hot and steaming, then pour it into the mug.

4. Finish the latte: Stir gently, add whipped cream, and finish with a light dusting of pumpkin spice.

Tips for Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte

  • Use freshly brewed espresso: Add it to the pumpkin mixture as soon as it is ready so the coffee flavor remains pronounced.
  • Choose a roomy mug: Leave enough space for the espresso, hot milk, stirring, whipped cream, and final spice topping.
  • Add the garnish last: Top the fully mixed latte so the whipped cream and pumpkin spice remain visible on the surface.

What to Serve with Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte

I would serve this latte with traditional shortbread cookies or Spanish muffins for a simple coffee-break pairing. Three-ingredient oatmeal cookies are another easy option when the drink is the main seasonal flavor.

Instructions

  • Add 2 tablespoons pumpkin puree, 1 teaspoon pumpkin spice, 1 tablespoon sugar, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract to a serving mug. Stir until smooth.
  • Brew 2 shots espresso, pour them into the mug, and stir until fully combined.
  • Pour 235 ml milk into a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat until hot and steaming, 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Pour the hot milk into the mug and stir gently.
  • Top with whipped cream and dust with pumpkin spice.

Notes

Mix until smooth: Stir the pumpkin base thoroughly so the spice does not form clumps or collect at the bottom.
Heat the milk gently: Stop heating when the milk is hot and steaming to avoid a scorched flavor.
Adjust before topping: Taste after adding the milk, then adjust the sugar or pumpkin spice in small amounts.
