Banana Nice Cream

Modified: Apr 13, 2026 · Published: Sep 9, 2023 by Estefania · This post may contain affiliate links · 1 Comment

Banana nice cream is one of the easiest frozen desserts to make at home. It blends frozen bananas into a creamy treat, with simple strawberry and chocolate variations.

Why You'll Love It

  • It uses simple ingredients and a very easy method.
  • You get three flavors from one banana nice cream recipe.
  • The texture turns creamy and smooth with just frozen fruit and blending.

I started making banana nice cream because it felt like the easiest answer to a warm afternoon when I wanted something cold but did not want to make a full homemade ice cream from scratch. Frozen bananas do all the work here. Once blended, they turn smooth and creamy in a way that still feels a little surprising every time, and that is exactly why I keep coming back to it. It is one of those simple recipes that shows how a short ingredient list can still make a frozen dessert feel special. When I am in the mood for other easy cold treats, I also love making my Cottage cheese ice cream or blueberry ice cream, because they have that same easy homemade feel.

What I like most about this version is how flexible it is. I can keep it simple with a banana, make it fruitier with a strawberry, or go for chocolate when I want something a little richer. It is quick, easy to change depending on what I feel like, and so handy to keep in mind for warm days when I want a frozen dessert without much effort. It also fits in nicely with other simple treats like frozen yogurt or even my brownie ice cream sandwiches when I want to add a few more homemade dessert ideas to the table.

Key Ingredients in Banana Nice Cream

You'll find the exact measurements in the recipe card, but here's a closer look at a few of the ingredients and why I use them.

  • Bananas: I use bananas as the base for this recipe because once frozen and blended, they create that naturally creamy texture that makes nice cream work so well.
  • Strawberries: Strawberries add a fresh and fruity variation that makes the nice cream feel lighter and brighter.
  • Honey: A little honey helps round out the flavor and gives each version a touch more sweetness.
  • Unsweetened Cacao Powder: I use cacao powder for the chocolate version because it gives the banana base a deeper flavor without needing extra steps.

How to Make Banana Nice Cream

You can find the complete printable recipe with measurements below, but for now, here's a quick overview of how it goes:

How to Make Banana Nice Cream

1. Freeze the Fruit: Slice ripe bananas and strawberries, then freeze them in separate bags.

2. Make the Banana Version: For plain nice cream, blend frozen bananas with honey until smooth, then freeze.

3. Make the Strawberry Version: For strawberry nice cream, blend frozen bananas, strawberries, and honey until creamy, then freeze.

4. Make the Chocolate Version: For chocolate nice cream, blend frozen bananas, cacao powder, and honey, then freeze for 30 minutes before scooping.

Tips for the Creamiest Banana Nice Cream

Freeze the Banana Slices Flat: I like to spread the banana slices in a single layer when freezing because it prevents them from sticking together and makes blending much easier later.

Use a Food Processor if the Blender Struggles: If the blender has trouble moving the frozen fruit, I sometimes switch to a food processor. It handles frozen bananas very easily and creates a smoother mixture.

Serve It Right After Blending: I often enjoy banana nice cream right after blending because the texture is very similar to soft-serve ice cream and feels extra creamy.

Storage

Store banana nice cream in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 2 days. I like to let it sit at room temperature for about 5 minutes before scooping, because that helps soften the texture and makes it easier to serve.

Instructions

  • Peel and slice 6 bananas, place them in a freezer bag, and freeze until completely solid. Cut 250 g strawberries into pieces, place them in a separate freezer bag, and freeze until solid.
  • For the banana version, add the frozen banana slices and 1 tbsp honey to a high-speed blender or food processor. Blend on high for 1-2 minutes until smooth and creamy, then transfer to a container and freeze.
  • For the strawberry version, add the frozen banana slices, frozen 9 oz (250 g) strawberries, and 1 tbsp honey to the blender. Blend on high for 1-2 minutes until smooth, then transfer to a container and freeze.
  • For the chocolate version, add the frozen banana slices, 2 tbsp unsweetened cacao powder, and 1 tbsp honey to the blender. Blend on high for 1-2 minutes until smooth, transfer to a container, and freeze for 30 minutes for a firmer texture before scooping.

Notes

Use Ripe Bananas: I like to use very ripe bananas because they blend more easily and naturally sweeten the nice cream.
Blend Until Creamy: I let the blender run long enough for the mixture to turn smooth and airy, which gives the nice cream a texture similar to soft-serve.
Let It Soften Slightly: If the nice cream freezes firm, I leave it at room temperature for about 5 minutes so it becomes easier to scoop.
