This Marry Me Chicken Orzo is creamy, cozy, and exactly what I make when I want something special without the fuss. It started with leftover rotisserie chicken and sun-dried tomatoes and turned into a favorite. Whether you’re after a chicken orzo recipe or a simple orzo chicken dish, this one’s always a hit. Recipe includes a how-to video!

This Marry Me Chicken Orzo is rich and comforting, but still light enough for a weeknight.
The orzo soaks up the creamy sauce, the spinach melts right in, and the sun-dried tomatoes add that deep, slow-cooked flavor, even though it comes together fast.
Whether you call it a chicken orzo pasta recipe or an orzo chicken dish, this one’s always a favorite.
What makes this chicken with orzo stand out is how everything builds in layers.

First, sautéing the garlic, onions, and spices gives it that savory base. Then the tomato paste and sun-dried tomatoes add depth, while a splash of white wine keeps the sauce balanced and never too heavy.
The orzo pasta cooks right in the pan, soaking up all the flavor until it turns creamy and tender, no need for butter.
I usually toss in cooked chicken, rotisserie works perfectly, and by the time it’s all simmered together, it tastes like it took hours.
A handful of fresh basil and some parmesan at the end make it complete. This is one of those chicken orzo recipes I keep coming back to.
It’s quick, packed with flavor, and really feels like a full meal in one pan.

⭐Why You'll Love This Marry Me Chicken Orzo
- Quick and Easy: It comes together fast, but tastes like it simmered for hours.
- Rich, Creamy Sauce: The combo of tomato paste, cream, and parmesan gives it that luxurious texture.
- Everything in One Pan: Less cleanup and all the flavor in one skillet, my kind of weeknight win.

🧾Marry Me Chicken Orzo Ingredients
Here’s the breakdown of what’s in this Marry Me Chicken Orzo recipe:
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil: I start with extra virgin olive oil because it adds flavor right from the first step, especially when sautéing the onions.
- Onion: A chopped onion adds a soft sweetness and gives the base a nice depth.
- Salt and Black Pepper: I always season the onions early so they start releasing flavor right away.
- Garlic Cloves: I grate or finely chop the garlic so it melts into the sauce; it’s a must in every bite.
- Tomato Paste: This adds richness and gives the sauce a bold color and flavor that’s way more intense than fresh tomatoes.
- Sun-Dried Tomatoes: I love the sweet and savory depth they bring; they make the whole dish taste like it’s been slow-cooked.
- Oregano, Paprika, Red Pepper Flakes: These add warmth and just enough spice. The paprika rounds it out while the flakes add a little surprise.
- Orzo Pasta: It cooks right in the pan and soaks up the sauce beautifully. I always toast it for a couple of minutes to give it a bit more flavor.
- White Wine: A splash of dry wine cuts through the richness and gives the sauce a little brightness.
- Chicken Broth: This keeps the sauce from feeling too heavy and helps the orzo cook with flavor built in.
- Cream: I add this for a velvety finish; it gives that classic creamy texture without being overwhelming.
- Cooked Rotisserie Chicken: Perfect for quick dinners, I just shred it and let it heat up in the sauce.
- Basil: Fresh basil gives the dish a lift at the end. I like tearing it in just before serving.
- Spinach: I stir it in toward the end so it wilts gently and adds a little color and freshness.
- Grated Parmesan Cheese: I mix it in off the heat so it melts smoothly, and it ties everything together.

👩🏻🍳How to Make Marry Me Chicken Orzo
These step-by-step instructions and photos will help you visualize how to make this recipe. See the recipe card for a printable version of this recipe.

1. Sauté the Base: Heat extra virgin olive oil in a large pan, then cook the onion with salt and pepper until soft. Add garlic, tomato paste, sun-dried tomatoes, and spices; cook for a minute.
2. Toast and Deglaze: Stir in the orzo and toast for 1–2 minutes. Pour in the white wine and let it simmer until mostly reduced.
3. Simmer the Sauce: Add the broth and cream, then bring to a simmer. Cook until the orzo is tender and the sauce thickens, stirring occasionally.
4. Add the Finishers: Stir in shredded chicken, spinach, and basil until the greens wilt. Turn off the heat and mix in Parmesan until creamy.

📖Variations
- Use Different Protein: Swap the rotisserie chicken for cooked Italian sausage or shredded turkey for a change in flavor.
- Make it Vegetarian: Use mushrooms or chickpeas instead of chicken; they absorb the sauce well and still make it filling.
- Change up the Greens: Try kale or chard in place of spinach for a different texture and taste.
- Lighten it Up: Skip the heavy cream and stir in a spoonful of cream cheese at the end for a slightly lighter but still creamy finish.
🍽 What to Serve with Marry Me Chicken Orzo
For a complete meal, Marry Me Chicken Orzo pairs beautifully with a tomato burrata salad; the creaminess of the burrata and the freshness of the tomatoes help balance the richness of the dish.
I also like to serve it with garlic bread or warm slices of ciabatta, perfect for soaking up every bit of the creamy sauce.
On the side, something simple like roasted green beans or asparagus adds a fresh, vibrant touch. And if you’re in the mood for dessert, a light lemon mousse or a slice of yogurt cake is the perfect way to finish.

💭Tips for Recipe Success
Chop the Sun-Dried Tomatoes Small: I like cutting them into little pieces so they mix evenly and don’t overpower any bite.
Don’t Skip the Wine: Even a small amount makes a difference in flavor; you can use broth instead, but wine adds complexity.
Add Spinach at the End: I always add spinach last so it stays vibrant and doesn’t overcook.
Stir the Orzo while Cooking: It helps keep the pasta from sticking and ensures everything cooks evenly.
Store Leftovers in an Airtight Container: I usually reheat it gently with a splash of broth or cream to bring back the creaminess.
