Easy Sourdough Garlic Toast (Crispy & Flavorful)

This garlic sourdough toast is one of those recipes that feels comforting every time I make it. I've tried versions with olive oil, mozzarella, and different herbs, but I always end up back at this one, a simple mix of butter, garlic, parsley, and Parmesan. The sourdough bread makes all the difference, with its chewy center and crisp, golden edges, and the garlic butter melts right into every bite.

You don't need any special tools, just a bowl, a fork, and your oven. While it bakes, the smell alone is enough to make everyone gather around. Whether I serve it with pasta, soup, or fish, this garlic sourdough toast always disappears fast. It's crisp, buttery, and herby, simple, cozy, and perfect every time.

Why You'll Love My Recipe

  • Quick to Make: Just a few ingredients and less than 15 minutes in the oven.
  • No Fancy Tools Needed: Just a bowl and a spoon. That's it.
  • Perfect with Any Meal: Whether it's pasta night, soup night, or just a snack, this garlic sourdough toast fits right in.

Ingredients

You'll find the exact measurements in the recipe card, but here's a closer look at a few of the ingredients and why I use them.

ingredients
  • Salted Butter & Garlic: I like using salted butter for richness and balance; it melts perfectly into the bread. Freshly minced garlic blends in smoothly and brings that deep, aromatic flavor once baked.
  • Parsley & White Pepper: Fresh parsley brightens everything up, while a pinch of white pepper adds gentle warmth without overpowering the garlic.
  • Parmesan Cheese: I always grate it fresh so it melts right into the butter, giving that salty, nutty depth that makes each bite irresistible.
  • Sourdough Bread: A good sourdough loaf is key; the crust turns beautifully crisp, the inside stays soft, and it holds the buttery topping perfectly.

How to Make Garlic Sourdough Toast

You can find the complete printable recipe with measurements below, but for now, here's a quick overview of how it goes:

How to Make Garlic Sourdough Toast

1. Make the Garlic Butter: In a bowl, soften the butter with a fork, then add minced garlic, chopped parsley, white pepper, and grated Parmesan.

2. Combine Until Smooth: Mix until smooth and well combined.

3. Spread on Sourdough: Spread the garlic butter evenly over each slice of sourdough bread.

4. Bake Until Golden: Bake at 392°F (200°C) for 7-8 minutes until golden and crisp, then let cool slightly before serving.

What to Serve with

Garlic sourdough toast is such a versatile side that goes with so many meals, like Gigi Hadid Pasta, Greek Lemon Chicken Soup, Garlic Butter Chicken Thighs, and Albondigas (Spanish Meatballs).

My Tips for Recipe Success

Use Room Temperature Butter: Soft butter mixes faster and more evenly; I always take it out 30 minutes ahead.

Blend Everything Well: I like to mash the butter and garlic together really thoroughly so the flavor is evenly spread, and every bite is consistent.

Store Leftovers in Foil: I wrap cooled slices in foil and reheat in the oven at 350°F (180°C) for about 5-6 minutes. They taste just as good the next day.

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 392°F (200°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the softened salted butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, white pepper, and grated Parmesan cheese. Stir the mixture until smooth and well combined.
  • Spread the garlic butter evenly over each slice of sourdough bread. Place the sourdough slices on a baking sheet, buttered side up.
  • Bake for 7-8 minutes, or until the edges are golden and crisp. Broil for 1-2 minutes at the end for an extra crispy top, if desired.
  • Let cool slightly, then serve warm or cold.

Notes

Mix Until Creamy: I like to take a moment to really blend the butter and garlic together so the flavor spreads evenly on every slice.
Use Fresh Garlic: I always mince it by hand; it makes the butter smell amazing as it bakes.
Chop the Parsley Finely: I find that small bits melt into the butter better and look nicer on the bread.
Grate the Parmesan Fresh: I always use a microplane; it melts faster and gives a rich, salty finish.
Don’t Walk Away While Broiling: I’ve burned a batch before by stepping away; it only takes a minute to go from golden to too much!
