Peanut Butter Mousse Recipe

I’ve recently become obsessed with peanut butter mousse! It’s not super common here in Spain where I grew up, but now living in the UK I’m completely hooked on this dessert. It’s creamy, light, and melts in your mouth. You only need a few ingredients and ten minutes to make it. No fancy stuff, just pure peanut butter goodness.

I love how creamy and light it is, and it’s perfect for so many things. I’ll use it to top my morning toast, or even as a dip for fruit when I want something sweet. It’s also amazing layered in a dessert with chocolate or crushed cookies, my friends are starting to ask for it every time we have a get-together!

It’s one of my favorite quick desserts, and if you love chocolate, I’ve got a chocolate mousse that’s just as irresistible!

⭐Why You'll Love This Peanut Butter Mousse

  • Easy to Make: This recipe may look fancy, but it’s super easy and only needs a few basic ingredients.
  • No-Bake Delight: You don’t need to turn on the oven for this mousse! It’s a no-bake dessert, perfect for warmer days.
  • Make Ahead: You can whip up this mousse ahead of time and keep it in the fridge, making it a great choice for guests. Just take it out when you’re ready to serve.
  • Versatile and Stylish: Whether you serve it in elegant glasses or simple dishes, this mousse always looks great. Add toppings like whipped cream, chocolate, or nuts to fit any occasion.

🧾Peanut Butter Mousse Ingredients

Here’s what you need to make this Peanut Butter Mousse:

Peanut Butter Mousse ingredients
  • Cream Cheese: I prefer using room-temperature cream cheese. It makes the mousse extra creamy with a little tang.
  • Powdered Sugar: I use powdered sugar because it sweetens the mousse and dissolves easily, keeping it smooth.
  • Vanilla Extract: A vanilla splash adds warmth and beautifully enhances the peanut butter flavor.
  • Salt: Just a pinch of salt balances the sweetness and makes the peanut butter taste even better.
  • Heavy Cream: I whip cold heavy cream until soft peaks form. It adds fluffiness and lightness to the mousse.
  • Creamy Peanut Butter: This is the star ingredient! It gives the mousse its rich, nutty flavor and smooth texture.

👩🏻‍🍳How to Make Peanut Butter Mousse

These step-by-step instructions and photos will help you to visualize how to make this recipe. See the recipe card for a printable version of this recipe.

1. In a large bowl, beat together the cream cheese, peanut butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and salt until smooth.

2. In another bowl, use a hand mixer to whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form, about 3-4 minutes on medium-high speed.

3. Gently fold the whipped cream into the peanut butter mixture, a little at a time. Be careful not to overmix, to keep the mousse light and fluffy.

4. After the mousse is mixed, spoon it into a piping bag with a tip. Pipe into serving glasses and chill in the fridge for at least 4 hours to set. Remove from the fridge 20 minutes before serving.

💭Tips for Recipe Success

Use Room-Temperature Ingredients: Let the cream cheese and peanut butter come to room temperature before mixing. This way, they blend smoothly for a creamy mousse.

Whip the Cream to Stiff Peaks: Whip the cream until it holds its shape. This gives the mousse a fluffy texture. Be careful not to over-whip! Chilling the bowl and whisk first can help.

Fold, Don’t Stir: Gently fold the whipped cream into the peanut butter mix using a spatula. This keeps the mousse light and airy. Avoid stirring too much or it’ll lose its fluffiness.

Taste and Adjust Sweetness: Taste the peanut butter mix before adding the whipped cream. Add more sugar or a pinch of salt if needed to get the flavor just right.

Use a Piping Bag for a Professional Look: For a fancy touch, pipe the mousse into glasses using a piping bag. It makes the dessert look like it came from a restaurant!

Storage: Store peanut butter mousse in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, add the cream cheese, peanut butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and salt and beat until the mixture is well combined and smooth.
  • In another bowl, use a hand mixer to whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. This will take about 3-4 minutes on medium-high speed.
  • Gently fold the whipped cream into the peanut butter mixture, a little at a time. Be careful not to overmix, as you want the mousse to remain light and fluffy.
  • Once the mousse is fully combined, spoon the peanut butter mousse into a pipping bag with a piping tip. Pipe into serving glasses. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours to set.
  • Remove the peanut butter mousse from the fridge and let it rest for 20 minutes before serving.

Notes

Soften the Cream Cheese: Make sure your cream cheese is at room temperature before you start. Cold cream cheese can leave lumps, making it hard to get a smooth mousse. Let it sit out for 30 minutes, or microwave it for 10-15 seconds if you're in a hurry.
Use Good Peanut Butter: For the best texture, go for smooth, creamy peanut butter. Avoid natural peanut butter that tends to separate, as it might not mix as well. Regular creamy peanut butter works best for this.
Sift the Sugar: Sifting the powdered sugar before adding it will help avoid clumps and make your mousse smoother.
Chill the Cream: For perfect whipped cream, make sure the heavy cream is very cold. This helps it whip faster and hold its shape better. You can even chill the bowl and beaters in the fridge for 10-15 minutes before you start.
Fold Gently: When you fold the whipped cream into the peanut butter mixture, be gentle. Use a light scoop and fold motion to keep the mousse airy and fluffy.
Pipe for Presentation: If you want to make it look fancy, use a piping bag to swirl the mousse into serving glasses. A star or round tip works great for this.
Taste and Adjust: Before piping, taste the mousse to check the sweetness. If it's too sweet or too peanut buttery, adjust with a bit more cream cheese or a pinch of salt.
Store Leftovers: If you have any leftovers, cover the mousse with plastic wrap and store it in the fridge for up to 3 days.
