This Honey Garlic Chicken recipe is one of those dishes that never fails to impress, no matter how many times I make it. The juicy chicken thighs turn beautifully golden, coated in a sticky honey garlic glaze that's both sweet and savory. I love how the sauce clings to the chicken, rich and glossy, bringing that perfect balance of garlic warmth and subtle sweetness that makes it so comforting.

🧾Ingredients

You'll find the exact measurements in the recipe card, but here's a closer look at a few of the ingredients and why I use them.

  • Chicken & Seasoning: I use boneless skinless chicken thighs because they stay juicy and soak up the sauce beautifully. A simple sprinkle of salt and pepper is all it takes to bring out their natural flavor.
  • Flour & Olive Oil: A light flour coating gives the chicken a crisp golden crust, while a touch of extra virgin olive oil helps it sear perfectly and adds richness.
  • Butter & Garlic: Once the chicken is seared, I add unsalted butter and fresh garlic; the butter melts into the pan, creating a smooth, flavorful base that smells incredible.
  • Honey, Soy Sauce & Vinegar: The honey thickens into a glossy glaze, balanced by light soy sauce for depth and a splash of apple cider vinegar for brightness. It's the perfect sweet and tangy finish.

👩🏻‍🍳How to Make Honey Garlic Chicken Thighs

You can find the complete printable recipe with measurements below, but for now, here's a quick overview of how it goes:

Process 1-4

1. Season and Sear the Chicken: Pat the chicken dry, then season with salt and pepper. Lightly coat with flour, shaking off any extra. Cook for 4 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for 2 more minutes.

2. Sauté the Garlic: Reduce the heat to medium, add 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil, 1 tablespoon butter, and garlic, then sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.

3. Build the Honey Garlic Sauce: Stir in vinegar, soy sauce, and honey. Simmer for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.

4. Finish the Chicken: Flip the chicken, simmer until thickened, and coat in honey garlic sauce.

🍽 Serving Ideas

When I make honey garlic chicken thighs in skillet, I love serving them with rice sometimes, and I switch it up with potato wedges for extra comfort. I also like to serve a fresh cucumber salad or tomato salad on the side.

💭My Tips for Recipe Success

Use a Splatter Guard if Needed: When the honey hits the hot pan, it can bubble up quickly. I keep a splatter screen nearby just to avoid any sticky cleanup.

Taste the Sauce at the End: Sometimes I add a tiny splash more vinegar or soy if I want it a little tangier or saltier; it's easy to tweak right at the end.

Keep the Heat low for the Final Simmer: I always reduce the heat before the sauce goes in. This keeps it from burning and helps the glaze turn out smooth and glossy.

Store Leftovers the Right Way: I let the chicken cool completely, then pack it into an airtight container with all the extra sauce spooned over the top. It keeps well in the fridge for up to 3 days, and the sauce actually gets even more flavorful the next day.

Ingredients

  • 500 g Boneless Skinless Chicken Thighs
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • ¼ teaspoon Pepper
  • 30 g Flour

  • 1 tablespoon Unsalted Butter
  • 2 Cloves Garlic - Minced
  • 2 tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Light Soy Sauce
  • 120 g Honey

Instructions

  • Pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towels, then season with salt and pepper. Lightly coat the chicken in flour, shaking off any excess.
  • Heat 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the chicken thighs and cook for 3-4 minutes on one side until golden brown. Flip and cook the other side for 2 minutes.
  • Reduce the heat to medium, then add the remaining 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil and the butter. Make space in the pan and sauté the minced garlic for 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Stir in the apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, and honey. Let the sauce simmer for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Flip the chicken and let it simmer for 1 more minute, coating the chicken well with the sauce.
  • Remove from heat and serve warm.

Notes

Sear for Color and Flavor: I like to let the chicken sit undisturbed in the pan for a few minutes; it creates that golden crust that's so good.
Add Garlic at the Right Time: I always wait to add the garlic after lowering the heat so it doesn’t burn and turn bitter.
Simmer the Sauce Slowly: I like to give the sauce a minute or two to thicken just enough to coat the chicken beautifully.
Flip to Coat Evenly: I always flip the chicken once more in the sauce; it helps soak up every bit of that sticky, garlicky glaze.
Glaze Right Before Serving: I like to spoon a little extra sauce over the chicken just before serving; it gives it that glossy finish and extra flavor in every bite.
