The Best Air Fryer Chicken Thighs for Easy Weeknight Dinners

I first tried making these air fryer chicken thighs on a night when I was out of ideas and wanted something effortless. With boneless thighs and a few spices I use all the time, I mixed everything in one bowl and let the air fryer do the work. What came out was better than I expected, juicy inside, crisp around the edges, and full of flavor. It immediately became one of my favorite ways to make quick, juicy air fryer chicken without overthinking anything.

Since then, it's been the recipe I fall back on when I need a quick weeknight dinner that still feels complete. These boneless skinless chicken thighs always cook evenly and pair with whatever I have ready: rice, a simple salad, or even roasted potatoes. After making them so often, the routine feels second nature, and I love having a meal that comes together this smoothly with almost no effort at all.

⭐Why You'll Love This Recipe

  • Quick and Easy: No marinating overnight or long prep, just season, cook, and enjoy in under 25 minutes.
  • Great for Meal Prep: These thighs stay tender and delicious even after reheating.

🧾Ingredients

You'll find the exact measurements in the recipe card, but here's a closer look at a few of the ingredients and why I use them.

Image of ingredients
  • Boneless Skinless Chicken Thighs: These are my go-to when I want something quick and juicy. They cook evenly in the air fryer and stay tender, even if I leave them in a minute too long.
  • Salt and Black Pepper: I keep it simple here, just enough to bring out the flavor of the chicken and balance the other spices.
  • Garlic Powder and Onion Powder: I always use these two together. They add that warm, familiar flavor that makes the chicken taste like it's been slow-cooked, even when it's not.
  • Smoked Paprika: This gives the chicken that beautiful color and a hint of smokiness. I love how just half a teaspoon adds so much flavor.
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil: I drizzle a little over the chicken to help the spices stick and create a light crisp on the outside; it really pulls everything together.

👩🏻‍🍳How to Make Air Fryer Boneless Skinless Chicken Thighs

You can find the complete printable recipe with measurements below, but for now, here's a quick overview of how it goes:

Process 1-4

1. Season the Chicken: Dry the chicken thighs with a paper towel to remove excess moisture, and put the chicken thighs in a big bowl. Add salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and olive oil.

2. Marinate Briefly: Coat the chicken thighs evenly with the spices evenly, and let them marinate for 15 minutes.

3. Air Fry Until Juicy: Put the seasoned chicken thighs in the air fryer basket and cook at 390°F (200°C) for 16 minutes, flipping halfway.

4. Rest Before Serving: After cooking, take the chicken thighs out of the air fryer and let them rest for 5 few minutes before serving.

🍽 What to Serve with Boneless Skinless Chicken Thighs In Air Fryer

These chicken thighs go with almost anything. I love them with roasted potatoes, a fresh cucumber salad, or even stuffed into a pita with lettuce and yogurt sauce. If I want to make it a full meal, I'll add garlic bread on the side, and something light for dessert, like lemon mousse or lemon posset.

💭My Tips for Recipe Success

Preheat for a Head Start: I like to give the air fryer 2-3 minutes to warm up before adding the chicken. It helps the outside crisp up a little faster.

Add Lemon Before Serving: Sometimes I squeeze fresh lemon juice over the thighs just before serving; it adds a bright, fresh contrast to the smoky flavors.

Line the Basket for Easy Cleanup: On nights when I don't want to scrub, I use perforated parchment liners; they make cleanup so much quicker.

Ingredients

  • 4 Boneless Skinless Chicken Thighs

  • ½ teaspoon Onion Powder
  • ½ teaspoon Smoked Paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Prevent your screen from going dark

Instructions

  • Pat the chicken thighs dry with a paper towel to remove any excess moisture.
  • Place the chicken thighs in a large bowl. Season the chicken with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika. Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil over the chicken. Rub the seasoning and oil into the chicken until evenly coated.
  • Let the chicken marinate for 15 minutes.
  • Place the seasoned chicken thighs in the air fryer basket. Air fry at 390°F / 200°C for 16 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • Remove the chicken from the air fryer and let it rest for a few minutes.
  • Serve with your favorite sides.

Notes

Pat the Chicken Dry: I always blot the thighs with paper towels first; it helps the seasoning stick and gives better browning in the air fryer.
Rub in the Seasoning: I like to use my hands to really massage the spices and oil into the chicken so every bite has great flavor.
Marinate for 15 Minutes: It’s just a short wait, but I find it gives the chicken a little more time to soak in all those spices.
Flip Halfway Through: I always flip them at the 8-minute mark so they cook evenly and come out golden on both sides.
Rest Before Serving: I let the chicken sit for a few minutes before cutting; keeps it juicy and tender every time.
